INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

The Year 2000 Support Centre is working closely with those official bodies most concerned with the Year 2000 issue – the Department of Trade and Industry and the Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency. The emphasis throughout to offer practical help.

Your IT team may be well on track to fix your systems before the Year 2000 deadline. But your business needs to address other key audiences before it can be confident that it will deal successfully with the new Millennium.

Your key managers in all departments need to be brought up to speed. The Year 2000 is likely to impact across all areas of the business.

Your staff need to be made aware of what’s at stake. If they are alert to the issue, they will be ready to spot any early warning signs. They will also accept more readily any budget cuts and disruptions that the Year 2000 may cause.

The Year 2000 Support Centre publish guidebooks, CD-ROMs, and a wide range of Year 2000 support materials which can be used inside the business to raise awareness and help the in-house Year 2000 team, and outside the business to help suppliers and customers beat the problem.

Your suppliers can cause you severe problems if large numbers of them fail to get to grips with the problem. You need to find out which of them are aware of the problem, and which are actually doing something about it. In all cases, it is in your interests to help your suppliers overcome the problem as swiftly and efficiently as possible – few businesses can happily contemplate ditching most of their key suppliers.
