Information specialists Technical Indexes, in association with Railtrack, have launched a new online Internet version of Railtrack’s Line Standards Service.
The new online Internet version has been developed to help designers, contractors, engineers and others carrying out work in a railway environment. It provides instant access to the complete collection of detailed standards in one single, easy-to-use electronic reference library. This makes it easier for the user to ensure that they have the correct version of a Standard.
Railtrack owns almost all of Britain’s railway infrastructure; including track, signalling, bridges, tunnels, stations and depots. It ensures that this infrastructure is continually maintained and improved; and provides access to track and stations for use by Britain’s train operators, both passenger and freight. The company also manages timetabling, train planning and signalling.
The new online version of Railtrack’s Line Standards Service allows subscribers to access fully signed electronic copies of line standards, applications manuals, special inspection notices, indexes of documents relating to signalling equipment, electrical distribution and electromechanical plant engineering activities. Also included are an index of DC electric track equipment drawings, OLEMI (Overhead Line Equipment Master Index), standard engineering drawings and some former British Railways Board documents. Updated every two months to ensure users are aware of all current changes, each update includes news and changes that have been released since the previous issue. All documents are originals held in true PDF (Portable Document Format) ensuring 100% accuracy and fast downloading, while rapid searching can be carried out by document series, number, title or subject.
Extra features included with the online service that are not available on the CD-ROM version include a selection of historical documents, draft line standards – including a feedback facility and a jargon buster – a database of Raltrack’s internal acronyms and terminology.
Full backup services accompany the package for online subscribers. Telephone helpline support is available for assistance with any difficult or unusual searches, or to provide advice on software installation, networking or general technical queries. For subscribers who want hard copies of Railtrack documents, these are available through Technical Indexes RAPIDOC express service subsidiary on 01344 404446, where such requests are processed quickly, often within the same day.
